    Tough choice (and great topic)! I went with SMB3, but almost went with Super Marioland 2. Both leaps ahead of their predecessors.

    My console pick would absolutely be Super Metroid. It did have the advantage of the new SNES HW, but the updates, designs, and game play were near perfect.

    As for arcades, I would say Ms. Pac-Man, but I know she gets on the Top 10 lists a lot.

    You would think that with better tech and more experienced programmers, the sequels would be better, but often the magic is hard to recreate. For example Donkey Kong vs DK Jr. and DK 3. Or Zelda 1 vs Zelda 2. I was also thinking of Dig Dug, but I am not sure since I really haven't played much of Dig Dug 2.

    It's got to be Pitfall 2 for me. That game was massive and beautiful.
