Default Musical Tribute to the Magnavox Odyssey˛

So as a challenge to myself, and as a favor to FocusRS on these forums, I wrote a song utilizing the very limited musical capabilities of the Magnavox Odyssey˛. Hope you like it!

    Any O2 fans out there?

Nicely done, Aaron! Love the Smithereens samples.

So I know the drums and the synth pads aren't from an Odyssey 2, but did you use sounds from a real O2 (running them through some reverb and delay) for the intro sounds? Or are these virtual 'sound-alike' software instruments?

    Thanks!

So I used Plogue Chipsounds - http://www.plogue.com/products/chipsounds/ - which is about as authentic as I can get without having O2 on hand. It samples the very small amount of monophonic tones you can get out of the O2 without using the voice module. It's a virtual instrument suite, but doesn't sound like a cheap knock-off. The designer knows what he's doing. The Reverb and other effects were added in Renoise.

The vocal samples were just straight samples I found in a zip file over on AtariAge. Focus offered to sample his own O2 for me, but I didn't want to put him through all the trouble.

Also - I was even able to incorporate the harsh noise channel from the O2, by running the sound through a phaser, giving it almost a jet engine like quality.

This really is great, you need to put some bits together and start offering work out.

Very cool. I may have to pick up a copy of Plogue Chipsounds to add to my musical arsenal.

I record my Odyssey 2 saying unflattering things about The Intellivisionaries for just about every episode, but I haven't incorporated any of it into my music yet...

Nice as always Aaron! Make me wish I still had my Odyssey 2 system (the first I owned!)

Very cool! Would love to hear more of this stuff... still one of my favorite systems. Grabbing some real sounds from the O2 would kick ass!
