Thread: Colecovision Podcast

    Default Colecovision Podcast

Ok, I was thinking of doing a Arcade podcast but there are so many of them out there I dont think I would bring anything new to the table. I still plan on doing my Arcade USA and Gamerspots videos, but wanted to try something else and figure a podcast would be cool.

So I have decided to go another route to do one on a console that really does not have anything for it in the podcast world, the Colecovision. I have been researching the system, its history, contacts and stuff for a while now (so hopefully I wont sound to stupid )

I am in the process of recording the first episode right now, but would like to get some tips from veteran podcasters since this is my first foray into the field on my own. I am a total noob with podcasting, so I have to figure out how it gets hosted, where it is stored and all that good stuff

I also am trying to decide on a name for it. I do play videos on my youtube channel using "The Colecovisionut" so I may just name the podcast that and give it a video element as well. so items discussed on the podcast people could go to the video version to see.

I also am trying to decide on wheter to do a solo act like Ferg on the Atari game by game podcast or do a joint recording like RGRU, Intellivisionaries and Stalking the Retro.

I guess I will see what happens when I release the first episode

so if you have any tips or suggestions, let me know

    How about the Colecovisionaries?

All jokes aside, this sounds like a cool idea. I've only ever played Colecovision through emulation, but it's a neat system.

Since I'm not an expert on this system, but I do want to help you out in any way I can, I would love to contribute music to the podcast if you get it up and running. There's even a Colecovision music tracker out there called CV Tracker! I'll try and put something together for you just for fun.

The Colacovisionarie's sounds brilliant! Focus you do a great job on your own mate, i find that if other folks are talking around you, you're to polite to drop the science. Also your a brilliant podcaster buddy. and you bought me a SEGA NOMAD! so i love you man (in a heterosexual 'man-date to the cinema to watch robots fight sea monsters' kind of way). haha. your awesome mate.

as always, if i can sort out some logos for you i would be more than happy to help out.

I thought about colecovisionaries but it is to much like Nurmix's intellivisionaries and did not want people think it was affiliated with his (in case mine sucks and not to give his a black eye) so I wanted something different and unique which is why I did "the colecovisionut" on my youtube channel.

I need a logo and some show music

If you're doing a true podcast with an rss feed you can either pay for your own hosting at a host where you can install addons, but that may work out expensive if they bill you for bandwidth.

It's easier to use an rss host, and I know that RGRU and Intellivisonaries use Libsyn which is not free but they do not charge you for bandwidth. They do however limit your storage space per month so it would depend how many shows you put out each month and how big they are.

I have chosen to host the It Is Big And Clever Podcast at podcastgarden which is free but not as pretty as Libsyn and doesn't have the same stats options but as I've only put out a couple of teasers so far I'm not too sure how it will work out yet.

If you want a site to host links etc then Libsyn will also do that for you and they have a few templates you can use for your site, but again, it's not free and is quite limited.

If you want your own site, which will give you more control over how it looks, you can host that separately elsewhere but you will need to know some basic html. Also, that would act as an archive as some rss hosts will delete older shows from their feeds. I think Libsyn only keep a back catalog of 50 shows in the feed but you can still link directly to the mp3 files, it just keeps the size of the rss file down. RGRU uses our own site to keep all of our shows online.

If you want a basic site building I can do that for you and I'll use one of my existing templates to save time so it will look something like this - http://www.idontliketypinginlongurls.com

That template is copyright free as I wrote it all myself apart from the menu system which is open source.

Have a site/blog as your shownotes pages with links in them.

It's easier to go solo as long as your voice isn't boring like some are, and you can always have guests anyway.

Whatever happened to the Colecovisions domain that Socal owned? That's a good name for a podcast too.

yep. after talking with socal. the show is going to be called ColecoVisions. and it will have a website that socal has set up for me . the rgru guys are behind me on this project which i really appreciate and thankful for their guidance (as i am a total noob)

    now need a show tune

my plan is to have the primary segment be on the colecovision itself. then a segment on another coleco item (board games, handheld electronic games and such). a news segment and then maybe a listener submiision section.

i plan on recording just a quick introductory podcast on the show to introduce myself and the goals of the podcast.

If Diagamblic hasn't already written an intro track for you, I'll be more than happy to, Focus. And I'd also love to be on the show as a guest, since I too am a fan of the Colecovision ... despite the sprite flickering / cancellation when 3 or more are on the same horizontal line (that no one ever seems to talk about but me)...

    ;-p
