    Default Dreamcast Disc Read Issues

So I am trying to play through Shenmue again and at first none of the 4 very new looking discs would load. I should mention that the system has no problems with any other games including a copy of Crazy Taxi that looks like it was mangled by a werewolf. I tried adjusting the pot on the laser (probably 1/8 a turn counter-clockwise) and got all of the Shenmue discs to read except disc 1. What is confusing me is that if I hold the system vertically so the controller ports are pointing at the floor, the disc loads just fine. Any ideas?

Bad laser. Playstations do it all the time, usually with backup discs, you have to turn the console upside down so the disc will load.

Doing that just brings the laser and the disc a little closer together.
