Default Miyamoto finally admits Wii U won’t be as powerful as its competitors

So much for getting the hardcore gamers to take a look at your console, Nintendo.

By the time Wii U is out, Microsoft and Sony will have unveiled their console successors which will leave the Wii U in the dust once again.

I think everyone already knew that. lol

Hell, even if it came out today it wouldn't be THAT much more powerful than what's already been out for years.

Above quote came before reading the article, this has been a "Fucking DUH" all along. lol

Well, you see. I was told that I had to now shut my pixel-counting, cell-processin’, graphic whoring mouth and throw away my Playstations and my Xboxes because the Wii U was going to be all I ever needed.

How the hell am I gonna do that now if the Wii U is not even going to be as powerful as existing consoles. Let alone less expensive.

Oh ‘cause you can bet yo ass this puppy is gonna be at least $399.

All cynicism aside; Nintendo desperately needs to get the attention of gamers because the 3DS isn't doing well.

In the end the Wii U will be a PS3/360 equivalent console at double the price, just like the 3DS is a PSP at EXACTLY twice the price of a PSP. End of story.

I think they announced and released far too early, it's almost like a gen 1.5 instead of gen 2.0.

If you actually read the article (or even headline), he says it "won't be much more powerful" than the 360/ps3. It's about the same. He doesn't say (and it isn't) less powerful than the current consoles. Of course, there are a million ways to measure a generic term like "power" so the only thing you can say is it's on par with them, or slightly better in some ways, or slightly worse in other ways. It's pretty much the same.

“I don’t know that we would be able to sit here and say that it’s going to necessarily dramatically outperform the systems that are out now,” Miyamoto told GameSpot.”
[Edit] If you were talking about the NEXT Xbox or PS4, then yeah, no duh. Did anyone expect otherwise? I'm not sure what the point is.

I was told that I had to now shut my pixel-counting, cell-processin’, graphic whoring mouth and throw away my Playstations and my Xboxes because the Wii U was going to be all I ever needed.
Whoever told you that had no idea what they were talking about.

If you can't do it with 8 bits, you don't need to do it.

Kinda depends on on your personal "needs" too I guess. In a lot of ways, my Vectrex and C64 are all I really "need" (extreme example but you get the point). Its like the whole graphics argument - do you really NEED graphical power? Maybe... just depends on your expectations and the kind of games you are looking for. I am sure the Wii U will find an audience but on the face of it it does look like its going to sit somewhere in the middle ground, maybe more so than the Wii.

First of all, Flare is like the Fox News of RGR with the way he tries to spin this headline. Second of all, if you've been paying attention over the last 7 or 8 years, power doesn't really mean anything when it comes to who sells more consoles.

Chris is right flare likes to stir stuff up LOL. But I wonder how well it will sell if it's just an upgraded Wii. If it's good enough and a game changer I might consider getting one if the price is right and there are good games. Since you only can have one of the special controllers per system I imagine kids fighting over it. Hey I want the good controller. No it's my turn etc.

Are you sure about that Dhal? It uses the same controls and can play the same games. The new one can play current gen games which sounds like an upgrade to me. The PS3 and Xbox 360 are technically upgrades of their previous versions. So Uhm.... why not?
