Well of course it's going to be more powerful than 5 and 6 year old consoles ... they'd be stupid to just stick an HDMI port on a Wii and upres everything to HD this late in the game. It'll have internal flash memory ... don't know how much yet but considering it's flash memory it isn't going to be monstrous. Though that's easily upgraded with SD cards and external hard drives. Running an IBM triple-core processor and an ATI video card based off of ATI's previous generation 4000 HD series PC video cards with a gig of RAM sitting on it. Which isn't uncommon for consoles. Hell, the original Xbox had a custom Geforce 3 in it. Makes me wonder what my laptop with it's old 4250 HD would be able to do with a gig of video RAM. :P And I wonder if that's 1GB of total RAM for the entire system or JUST the video. Either way, it's still way behind.

They didn't even use the Wii U to show off Assassin's Creed and Madden and whatnot. That was footage from the 360 and PS3 to show off the experience. lol

The PC's power has nothing to fear from this console. Now if only they'd go back and actually make games taking advantage of the PC's horsepower rather than the console's old tech we'd be in business with games REALLY moving forward. The Wii U's early specs so far don't show it as being THAT MUCH more powerful than either a 360 or, more specifically, the PS3. But it is a definite welcome move up from the original Wii.

And they're ditching those stupid fuckin' friend codes. WOO!!!! lol

If that Jenny McCarthy game came out for the Wii U I would've definitely bought it if I had the system. I saw screenshots of that game for the Wii, and JM portrayed in previous gen graphics was just not good.

Maybe Nintendo will realize the porn industry is a viable business option. :P

Jenny McCarthy went to Southern Illinois University in '94 before she hit Playboy ... just a mere 15 minutes away from me and a place I have to go to every night. Granted, I was only about 13 at the time. But still.

Nice One. Whoa whoa stop the presses. I can do that with the new controller? Day one buy for me now. Wii U because sometimes twitter isn't the most entertaining way to send inappropriate pictures. (By the way UK what's your twitter address)

In all seriousness I'm glad that Nintendo has finally decided to get into the current generation of gaming. It will make them tons of money and to be honest all consoles are putting out repetitive crap these days. Perhaps they will be the one to shake things up a little and make something interesting.....but probably not. I mean how many marine or space marine shooters do we really need? Halo 4? Haven't they made like six of those things? Call of Duty? What are we up to like 8 in that series?
Infamous and Uncharted are a refreshing change but Sony doesn't have that many unique IP's either.

I can't believe that they came out with the PSVita it should have it's own thread. I mean it looks cool but the fact is most people use portable gaming consoles for quick little bursts of gaming. Most do not want to carry around a dedicated gaming machine which is why they are selling fewer and fewer every month. I mean why would I want to play uncharted on a portable device when I have a big screen HDTV for that. Still it looks cool on the tech side of things.

Mobile phones don't sell more games because they are innovative. They sell more games because while you are waiting for a reply about the picture of your man junk you just tweeted.... you can play angry birds. I mean you are already staring at your phone you might as well play a game on the darn thing.

I never did like Angry Birds. :\

I do play a level or two of Plants Vs Zombies on my iPod whenever I get the chance, though. :P And I got Battlefield Bad Company 2 for it the other day.

I've got around 15 or 16 gigs of games on mine ... guess I should get around to playing more of them sometime.

Yeah I went to school at the same time as Tess Daly.

    About half past 8.

Not that I use it much but most things I do like Blog, Facebook, YouTube etc get copied there by FriendFeed.

I was surprised the name was still available though.

To be fair, the over the top Nintendo supporters are being a bit hypocritical right now (and don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's you).

What I find outrageous is that now that the Wii U will sport 1080p resolution, suddenly graphics do matter again with these folks.

Before it was like "who needs core games, those are for pixel counters, give me casual games that are FUN (keyword) and last for 5 minutes a time. Who needs epic immersive experiences? Not me, the Nintendo fanboy"

But now that the U will (probably) get decent ports of Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, etc... the Nintendo fanboys claim those are their favorite type of games and are welcoming them with open arms.

Specs-wise, I find it hard to believe that the U will have more power than a PS3, so the core games will still pale under comparison; but we'll see.

Controller-wise; I don' really care about having a screen in my controller, and boy, those circle pads look awful; I suspect they are like the analog thumb the PSP had which was simply unusable... There's nothing wrong with a DUALSHOCK, so give me that instead, any day of the week.

By far the most obnoxious aspect of an over the top Nintendo supporter is that it's always all about how much money Nintendo is making. It's almost like they own stock in that company and they feel they need to push their agendas because that way they may earn money as well. Otherwise I don't get how someone would champion a console based on sales figures instead of what games it has.

You know; I still believe game companies don't care about you. You may love your Wii, but your Wii doesn't love you back.

    Sorry for the long rant

You are right, and of course same goes for MS and SONY but my original comment had not so much to do with fanboys and haters as with a general sense of disappointment that borders on psychosis against anything new.

I've watched this kind of reaction on the Internet over the past few years when the App Store, the 3DS and the iPad were launched.

This is new platform, it has a lot of potential and it promises new experiences. Wii should be happy.

Yeah but that's understandable, the system is still a year off. It is kinda funny though.

Sort of goes both ways on that one. Pixel junkie types who shunned the Wii now are hating on the U even though Nintendo will be sporting the specs that surpass the current systems. If folks were disappointed in the allegedly shallow experiences offered by Wii, I can only imagine that now there's a new reason to be upset about the technologically superior U. It's clear that hating Nintendo is just a "thing", it doesn't matter what Nintendo does for some people.

Before it was like "who needs core games, those are for pixel counters, give me casual games that are FUN (keyword) and last for 5 minutes a time. Who needs epic immersive experiences? For me personally, I care nothing for Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, or any of those kinds of games. I feel the same way about Metroid. Nintendo making a system that can feature these games really doesn't make me excited one way or the other. For them to be able to make a deeper version of games like Endless Ocean, Animal Crossing, or Luigi's Mansion, now that has me excited.

Controller-wise; I don' really care about having a screen in my controller
Yeah, I have yet to see much reason to get excited about that. This is the thing about Nintendo though, they have a way of showing what makes the tech useful eventually. I wasn't sold on a DS initially because I didn't see the point of touch screens (I bought a PSP months before a DS). I wasn't sold on the Wii initially because I didn't see the point of motion controls. But both those systems own the markets they inhabit.

You know; I still believe game companies don't care about you. You may love your Wii, but your Wii doesn't love you back.
Sure, they are all just a business and businesses are concerned with making money. A good business knows its base and is constantly working to capture all of the market.
