I bet that controller is going to be at least £150 and the console at least £250 so count me out!

I had to laugh when Reggie mentioned "Chase Me".
It reminded me of Duncan Norvelle.

Why all this negativity? Nintendo came out with a new proposal for gaming which is to say the least intriguing. Don't forget this is just a platform, what happens to it is up to developers,1st and 3rd party. Raw power isn't everything and you know you are going to get the power you want with the next xbox/ps, so why not try something different?
How many of you wished their iPad had traditional controls? Well the Wii U is a step in the right direction.
The gaming crowd is becoming more and more conservative and unimaginative. Maybe it's because we're getting older...
Well, with me personally Nintendo hasn't done anything interesting (as far as consoles) since the SNES. And the fact that they keep releasing games based off of franchises that are almost as old as I am with either very little (or garbage) third party support doesn't help the problem that they can't start up another fucking IP. What was the last new thing they did as far as IPs? Pikmin?
Of course the third party support isn't ALWAYS garbage ... I would almost get a Wii for the House of the Dead games. Especially Overkill. But with Overkill coming to the PS3 with a boatload more content, there's yet another reason on the large pile of them for me not to bother with the Wii. But with the N64 and Gamecube, the third party games were on other systems and generally done better on those systems. Most of the time.
Good games are good games no matter what console they're on of course ... but for the most part Nintendo hasn't given me personally any reason to buy their consoles in YEARS. I grew out getting a system for the Marios, the Zeldas and the Metroids a long time ago. And without much of anything new in the games department from them, I just don't care. And judging from recent history, it's unlikely they're going to release a new, interesting IP that would cause me to say "Damn, I'm going to go out and get a Wii U for that!"

What it boils down to is that haters are gonna hate. It's Nintendo, so no matter what Nintendo does, some people are there right away to spew negativity. One delusional person even claims Nintendo has lost the last few console generations, which is ridiculous since Nintendo owns the #1 spot in the handheld AND home console market, and did it with two machines that were technologically inferior to their competition. The only thing I can figure is that there's almost nothing to be excited about from whichever company they back.

Well, Nintendo HAS lost the past few console generations. They didn't even pick up again UNTIL the Wii. I wouldn't say that Nintendo "lost" with the N64 and Gamecube, they made serious bank though they came in last when it comes down to who survived with regards to the 32X, Saturn and Dreamcast dying out early. So in the race they crossed the finish line last. But who cares in the end. Money's money in business. And they seem to have made enough of it (or maybe they didn't?) to rehash the Gamecube in the Wii.
With the Wii, it's kind of weird with that one ... it sold the most consoles by far, but the game adoption rate is the lowest of the three. The lion's share of the games that were sold for that system -and the previous two for that matter- were the games that they made. Hell, look at this list http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...ii_video_games Which is losing to a degree because they're not making as much money as they would with the games (though they're still making heller money hehe) ... they made automatic money with the consoles because they were making a profit from day 1 considering it was running such outdated hardware. But in the end, most developers want to try to move forward with their engines and technology, and they just couldn't do it with the Wii.
That really low game adoption rate is probably the reason they're concentrating on making hardware powerful enough for third part developers to actually MAKE games for the thing now. Darksiders 2 and Batman Arkham City are coming out for the thing, and that's friggin' awesome.
It makes me wonder how many Wii's are actually in use. I know that the majority of my friends that got it got it because they were curious. Now they're sitting in boxes and get pulled out maybe once or twice a year for when they feel like playing Wii Sports or Mario or something.
And since when were handhelds ever lumped in with consoles? I could be wrong on this, but haven't handhelds always been a TOTALLY different market? And even that's in trouble with practically every cell phone now being a smartphone that plays games, and while the 3DS is doing well, it's not doing as well as they'd hoped it would. It even got outsold by the PSP when it first came out in Japan which is weird in itself. I don't know if it still is, probably not. But it was weird to hear about that one. :P
And none of that is "hater" talk, it's just pure fact.

What are the specs? I didn't know Nintendo had released them. All I know is that the rumors before the unveiling were that it'd be significantly more powerful than the 360 and PS3. And that Battlefield 3 is coming to the system as well.Originally Posted by Dhalamar
