Touching The Void.

I was bored out of my brains waiting for the coach to arrive to take me up to Scotland for a week away with my now fiancée Kerry. I suffer with bad anxiety and crowded places tend to put me on edge so I dived into a small bookshop to avoid sitting in the crowded bus station and after a long browse and a friendly natter with the shop owner (Who looked like Terry Pratchett) I found a book called Touching the Void. It is safe to say that I will never be without a copy of this book for the rest of my life and ironically the only reason I wanted to make a blog on Documentaries is to share this film/book with folks like you.

Joe Simpson and his long life friend Simon Yates took on the Siula Grande Mountain, a mountain that had claimed the lives of everyone that attempted to climb her. What would happen to Joe and Simon on their decent would change both of their lives forever. Sit back and enjoy a stunning documentary Produced by Channel 4 in England and based on the award winning book for the same name by the man who lived it, Joe Simpson.

The Beckoning Silence

Clusters of reporters and tourists watched on in awe, a team of four climbers ascended the face of the Eiger. The sheer scale of the rock face was enough to deem any attempt to climb this mountain as a loss of mental health, if the rock face didn’t claim your life you had the ‘White Spider to look forward too, an ice face that would jettison you thousands of feet into thin air should you lose your footing. Not for the faint hearted. This true story of friendship and disaster is a reminded to thrill seekers that the difference between glory and death can be a small rock, un-lodged from a place on the mountain. Enjoy this documentary as a compliment to the film ‘Touching the Void’, this film is also narrated by Joe Simpson (Survivor and writer of Touching the Void) who wrote the book of the same name.
