I'm sitting here listening to Roundup #132 and Scott mentioned this topic during an interview. What is retro? So I had a thought that I would like to share.

I think the answer is this: It is subjective. So perhaps it's time to subdivide it. For example. "The Retro 8 Era" for 8 bit computers and consoles. Then Retro 16, Retro 32.....and eventually sometime in the future, Retro 4k. :)

I think the solution is that simple. So feel free to call this idea your own and allow it to catch on. :)

Or perhaps it just prompts someone to come up with a better idea.

I know I don't really post, but I do always listen...every month.

Rock on!

Comics use the term Silver and Golden age to determine particular eras. As of right now, I call the different time periods Pre-Atari, Atari, 8-Bit, 16-Bit, 32-Bit, DVD, and Modern era.

As time marches on, they will all be lumped together as one...including the 4k stuff now. :)
