So glad there is someone out there who shares my love for the Picross games. I've bought every single one that's been released so far. I think a game like that would make a great homebrew for a retro system. ;)

There is a homebrew version for PSP and a great version called Picture Puzzle on the Neo Geo Pocket Colour.

Also, check the Japan only Picross Volumes 1 to 8 and Super Picross on the SNES.

I enjoyed Simon's segment. Is he recording Dinosaur Party exclusively for Retro-Gaming Roundup? (Just curious...I hope it continues, either way.)

HOLY SHIT! What a massive unexpected treat! Simon Butler on the podcast! This guy was the highlight of the Ocean talks at Revival and it's brilliant to hear him on the podcast! Talking about Dizzy! HAHAHAHA! BRILLIANT!!!

I hope Chris is right and you have Simon Butler on board for as long as you can get him to record!

I've played most of the Japanese ones in emulation.
There was a NGPC one? Holy crap I have to track that game down.
Should have specified, I have all of Nintendo's English releases :p

Ok, just tracked it down, the NGPC one was Japan and Europe only. That's why I didn't know about it.

So cool to hear about a homemade "VideoTouchTunes", Scott. Makes me want to drive all the way from Michigan just to hang at your arcade parties! And a good commentary about the free-to-play games. It was thoughtful.

Let me go on a personal editorial here:

So many times these great interviews have been have been wildly hampered by loud background noise, or mics a long distance away from the speaker. This Activision group interview is perfectly recorded. I love it. Fantastic. DAVID CRANE 4 LYFE!

Simon is an Exclusive, yes. He's never done a Podcast before but will be a monthly contributor where his time allows.

Don't forget, we have 2 more as yet unannounced Alumni on board as well, hopefully for the next show.

You are going to like all 3. I've spoken to them all at length on several occasions and they are all good raconteurs.

Didn't know it was Europe too. I've never seen a hard copy.

It was. Not something I've thought about recently but I did decide I hated it when DLC came about.

This Activision group interview is perfectly recorded.

A little off at the beginning but it cleared up.

Not bad considering what I recorded it on.

Well i had time to digest the Simon Butler segment. I think he is genuine and that may seem tp put some folks off his personality but i find it refreshing. It also sounds like recording let Simon get some things of his chest and in the mean time we got entertained. Bring on the next episode and of course we all want to know what bullshit went off with the company that liquidized then re surfaced with a game (codemasters?? not sure but i think he meant the dizzy owners) anyway it was a great segment my only fault is why on earth would Simon like Mario over Sonic?

After a good listen i can say without a shadow of a doubt that i wouldn't be entertaining any pay to play games... just ain't my style... It's good enough to pay full price for a game then enjoy it then if you like maybe buy some special add on packs but i wouldn't subscribe to a game for a monthly payment or even have a free game in which you need to pay to advance quicker than just playing...

Well, I too listened to Simon and I gotta be honest, he comes across simply as a guy who is a little disillusioned with the state of modern gaming but at the same time values some of the smaller devs who are still doing interesting work. His opinions are very similar to may of the developers I know, and probably including myself, who have been in the business for a long time. And having seen a little of Sky Saga - yeah, I also question how this suddenly 'appeared' out of nowhere in such a short time frame.

Just getting around to checking out the Top 10 in this one, and wanted to give a shout out to Scott's discussion of Telengard. I met Dan Lawrence when I went to Purdue and he was a brilliant guy, not only in tech and programming in games like Telengard, but he was also in world creation and storytelling. He was the game master of the campus' 'D&D' community (of a game system and campaign of his own design) that i ran in in my years on campus. He passed way too soon back in 2010.

Hey GUYS! long time no talk! I just started listening to RGR again!!! Excellent show as usual. Especially loved the CGE panel. So fascinating. I also liked Scott's talk about the Amiga drive emulator. I have a TRS 80 I picked up at a swap meet. I might try to do something similar for it. (assuming I can find a USB to 4-pin serial I/O port). Keep up the good work guys. I've missed all your insanity!
