I must send in too much news lol, but I think a lot of the stuff I send in is sometimes stuff other people may pass over or not notice.

Anyhow, great to see the show released the 23rd, I can listen to it tonight before doing the Christmas with family stuff.

I was against Nintendos training wheels on games, but for the reason that we never had that as a kid. If you played Mega Man for example, you died and died and died til you got it right. It just feels wrong to me, and its a feature I'll be turning off in newer Wii titles. I understand Scotts complaint about the controllers to a degree, but I guess I'm adaptable as far as controllers go cause I've been a console gamer all my life, and just dabble in PC gaming some (although I got my faves there too), so I've gotten used to any controller out there, including odd ones like the N64 one, and Dreamcast took some getting used to as well.It took me a while but I eventually got used to the whole dual thumbstick thing. Ah well, opinions opinions.

I LOVED the feature with David Crane. Pitfall was one of my favorite Atari games, and A Boy And His Blob on NES was really unique for its time. On the other hand, I didn't like Amazing Tennis on the Genesis.

I haven't seen the original Tron in years. I skipped the Tron special for now, simply because I haven't seen the original since I was 8, and figured to keep the "magic" so to speak I rented the first movie and will be watching it tonight, than gonna go watch the the new movie, than listen to the special. From what I have already heard, the new Tron game I should pass.

hehe, I guess I should explain my thinking on my Porn games submission. I usually don't toot my own horn so to speak, because there are a TON of other people out there who to me are more deserving, like you guys (who I've been plugging in every vid in my intro for a while now, along with 3 other sites), James Rolfe over at Cinemassacre, Dhalamars Wasted Seconds, and so on. So I usually just throw my stuff out there (which is more or less a camera pointed at a TV with me commentating) and I figure whoever likes it will sub my YouTube stuff. My work don't have the polish that most other people put on, due to me having no capture card yet. So, I just throw it out, don't push too hard, and whoever likes it hangs with it.

Going back now to check out Hardware Flashback and the top ten (I usually check news first, than other random segments that interest me, than I re-listen to the whole thing)

Leave Britney alone! (sorry, had too)

Great show guys! I didn't expect to enjoy that top 10 discussion as much as I did - it turned out great. Another movie that could have been mentioned is Transformers. The old animated movie is actually quite good and the newer version isn't bad either. There have been quite a lot of Transformers themed games over the years and the technology aspect of the "Robots in Disguise" would have fit with your conversation.

I loved David Crane's story about how he wired up the TV tuner knob next to his bed for a homemade remote control. Awesome stuff.

I never get sick of hearing interviews with these guys. I didn't realize they weren't with Skyworks anymore - I guess all my info about them is via old Retrogaming Radio interviews.

I just finished reading "Racing the Beam" which went into some details about tricks Pitfall and other Activision titles used. Brilliant engineering. The book wanders around a bit, and sometimes it doesn't quite go into as much technical detail as I'd like, but overall it's a fun and interesting read if you're interested in how some of this 2600 software was written.

Another great show guys. When listening to the movie top ten, I'm wondering if anyone has seen Pick-up Summer (originally Pinball Summer)? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0082902/

I've heard it is like Joysticks except with Pinball, so I think I might grab it on Netflix and give it a go.

Great show as always, some comments:
I nominate Betsy Russel (Tomboy) for your Hot 80-s Top 10, grade A material.

About the top 10, here in Sweden they have had a bad habit of renaming movies with a english title to, guess what, another english title.
"The wizard" was renamed "Gameboy" which seems fitting. ("Cramer vs Cramer 2: Cramer vs Cramer vs Coopa" would have been even more fitting considering the mood ...)

About Ron Jeremys acting, I think he was great in "The Boondock Saints" (great movie too), didn't see the new horror movie though.

Last but not least, what is the difference between Screwing the pooch and F*cking a pud? You got me confused there...
Happy holidays and have a great New Year!

Also, it is cold as hell here in northern Sweden(-25 to -30), which makes the Laplanders reindeers (who moves in herds) to gravitate towards the roads. This is not optimal in a time when a lot of people driving across the country.
Think Carmageddon but with horned laplander-sheep instead of people.

Please do. I'm quite intrigued by this film, it sounds like something I'd really enjoy.

Sort of on the subject, I've been thinking about the top ten 80s babes. I like the idea. I think it deserves a thread on its own. I would guess that most of us on the forum hit puberty in the 80s, and so we all must have a few memories of the women we've seen on TV and in movies who opened our eyes to a new lifelong interest. I know I do.

Also, while I was tempted to submit this video for news next month, I think it suits this month's show too well to wait.

At the very least, someone should make it a thread if it isn't going to be a featured monthly top 10.

By the way, hands down (no pun intended) my #1 pick would be Phoebe Cates... the "most memorable bikini drop in cinema history"

Oh, and ATTN: UK

Lee Ving, who was mentioned twice in the top 10 as being a cast member of a few different movies - is in fact a well known punk rock singer for the LA band Fear. He plays Mr. Boddy in the Clue movie, but is sort of a notorious punk rock legend. He can be seen playing with Fear in the film the Decline of Western Civilization. I was quite a fan of his band in my younger mosh pit days. Their best known songs include "Fuck Christmas", "Bomb the Russians" and "The Trouble Today with Women (The Mouth Don't Stop)" Not exactly PC, but awesome nonetheless.

I've watched Midnight Madness MANY years back, haven't managed to get time to rewatch it yet, but will prolly Netflix it later this month.

I thought it was a pretty funny scavenger hunt movie, similar to Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World or Rat Race. My wife and I both laughed a lot. About 2/3rds of the way through my wife said "wait a minute, I have seen this movie." Heh. The arcade scene was pretty cool, although I watched Bishop of Battle the day before and that one showed a lot more games and game play. Maybe my expectations for the arcade scene were too high. At the same time, the row of pins in the first shot in the arcade was awesome, and there were a lot of great cabs in the arcade. I was going to watch that whole scene again, but my wife sent it back. :) Paul Ruben was hilarious. Definitely worth watching. Leon's girl "Candy" was pretty hot, too!

I thought the old lady was funny as hell, A Strategy board, just like we had in the war. Damn I love that movie. My favorite scene ever is the Meat Machine running into the PBR brewery as a religious experience, that is my ringtone for texts, PABST BLUE RIBBON, AHAHAHHAAAA

Evening sirs - thanks for adding that link for the Amiga accelerator. Received mine few days ago and have just installed it in my Amiga 1200. It has turned my vanilla A1200 into WHDload games powerhouse :-) Can throughly recommend it. If you are half tempted just do it!! There are plenty of FAQ's on the English Amiga Board and the support from Amigakit is excellent.

I will report back with a more complete review soon :-) Can't stop playing Supremacy now (after UK Mike did a spotlight feature on it ages back)!

My first A1200 has a slight fault which was only uncovered after being switched on for the first time in 5 years - there is only one channel sound (left) the right channel is kaput :-( - luckily I had a spare A1200 to replace with and transferred the HD across. I highly recommend getting a 4GB compact flash HD for the Amiga as well - look on Fleabay... Save power and is silent.

Great show again and thanks for the mention - and yes SoCal I am partial to f-ing cars lol ;-)

Will report back soon. BTW if any soldering gurus fancy a UK spec A1200 for repair drop me a line - I'm in Lincoln (the back of beyond).

Just going back to the A1200 to watch some classic AGA demos now while finishing this pesky report for work.

All the best

I'm currently working my way through the top ten movies, started well with WarGames, but I think I did pretty well to watch The Last Star Fighter and Midnight Madness (Having a theme song that actually incorporates the name of the move is never normally a sign of quality) all the way through!

I reckon they should start selling T-Shirts of terrible movies featuring the most mundane quotes from them. Like a black & white image of the greasy haired gimp in Midnight Madness with "Leon!!" written under him or Michael J Fox with "It's my Birthday and my brother forgot!"

The Wizard was class, Silent Hill next!

Lol, yeah was a bit of a tenuous link to video games tbh, you could of actually put anything in that top ten on the basis of this particular movie. Like Grosse Point Blank , just because there's some kid in the convenience store playing an arcade machine, or Office Space because there's one scene where he happens to be playing a bit of Tetris. ;-)

Just started listening to this episode on the way into work. Man, I wish I lived on the east coast the MAG fest sounds like a total blast. "A Video Game Party with a rock concert". Totally my kind of show. After the stuff shirt, walled garden experience I had at CGE it was really refreshing to hear about MAG fest's "open 24 hour approach" to game expo-ing. I'd love to make this next year.

Although listening to this I kept asking myself if RGR will ever get big enough to have Monroe World style listener expo. Be a good excuse to take the wife the the UK.

The Wizard was class, Silent Hill next!

For my money Silent Hill is the best video game movie adaption ever. Is a it a great movie? eh, it's OK, but in terms of translating what makes silent hill a great game into a movie, it did a bang up job.

SubaruBrat
16-02-11, 10:14
Tek, MAGFEST is very much right up your alley, I have every confidence you would find it matches more of how you would like an expo to be. If CGE could go 24 hours it would make allot of sense, giving the attendees so much more interaction and exposure during the two days. Often the alumni are doing panels or such, and when the doors close people head off to room parties or other venues. If it was 24 hours the chance to mingle and interact after the panels would be allot greater between show attendees and alumni, as well as attendee to attendee. The music could also be done after hours allowing people to have discussions on the floor without shouting to hear each other.

As for a listener expo, our download numbers between RSS, direct, and a guesstimate of the torrent numbers leave no doubt that were more than big enough, its our ego that isn't. We love meeting our listeners and will keep hitting shows like CGE and MAGFEST and meeting and hanging out with as many of them as we can, but an event centered around us wouldn't really be our thing.
