Would it be possible for the hardware flashback segment to cover up to date storage solutions for the old 8 bit micros. My time is scarce these days so I tend to only use my old consoles due to the cartridge load times. I would love to dig out my ZX Spectrum, C64 and Atari 800 and give them some play time, but tapes just take too long to load.

I know of some flash based solutions, but which ones are the best, who can you trust to purchase from online ?

It would be great if you could cover this topic on the show.

I'm sure Scott will cover it as he has some cool C64 mods and addons.

BTW I used my iPod to load games into my C64 last year as an experiment. I converted .tap images to .wav files and put them on my iPod though any mp3 player should do, then use one of those cassettes with a headphone jack (http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/3515811/Car-Audio-Cassette-3-5mm-Jack-Adaptor-iPod-MP3-Player/Product.html?ptsl=1&ob=Price&fb=0&&_$ja=tsid:11518|cc:|prd:3515811|cat:iPod+Accessori es) on and put it in your cassette deck.

I guess one of these (http://www.amazool.com/en/cassette-mp3-player-deluxe-edition-car-cassette-mp3.html?currency=GBP) might be even easier.

Et Voila

I’d be really interested in that too. Building some kind of flash solution that I could use to load games into my old Spectrum 128 would be cool.

I was never really into tinkering with hardware but Scott’s section has made me want to give it a try. There’s no way I’m going to try discharging a monitor though.

I think that's probably a step to far for me to.

Ever seen one of these?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZX_Microdrive

I used one at a retro show, it was pretty reliable, and faster than tape.

Yes I have, but I have thought they were quite unreliable. Also there is the issue of moving downloaded files / cassette onto the microdrive. Not sure how best to do that if I could purchase one.

Hey guys, Keep the entertaining shows coming.

I'd like to hear a debate or top-ten on arcade game or console game interface controls / controllers. Or Maybe something along the line of your favorite peripherals as well.

Think: racing wheel, light gun, trackball, tank controls, power-glove, wii-mote, flight yoke, dance pad, head sets, plastic guitars, paddles, touchscreens, etc.

Scott, have you covered the Playchoice 10 in a Hardware Flashback yet? My brother just gave me one (a Pacman conversion), but I have enjoyed learning about it, the game boards, and how to modify it to play regular NES games.

Best of luck with CGE!

In addition to Playchoice 10, the Nintendo VS. arcades would also be a great HW Flashback topic.
